Frankincense has been considered conducive to prayer, meditation & enhancing peaceful states for eons. It enables the lungs to take on more oxygen, slows & deepens the breath, which can help calm the mind and is why it is useful for asthmatics. Its mentally rejuvenating properties and ability to treat snots & sneezles, especially if you are feeling “bunged up”, make it a great recuperative oil.
Frankincense has long been used to aid the end of life process especially where inner resolution is needed, which is why I use it in my practice for supporting acceptance, reducing anxiety and nervous tension.
It is also great for the skin, aiding the healing of wounds & is useful in skin preparations. I have used it in many creams over the years to nourish dry and mature skins.
It blends well with benzoin to address asthma, with pine and lavender for respiratory issues, and all citrus oils including bergamot, mandarin and neroli to address stress, anxiety or lift a mood and calm the mind.

Frankincense was used by the ancient Egyptians, Persians, Hebrew, Greek & Roman civilisations as an aromatic incense and for religious rituals. It is still used as such today including in churches.
As well as being used in skin cosmetic products up to the present day, charred frankincense was used as a kohl eyeliner by Egyptian women.
There is a growing body of research exploring the impact of frankincense on different cancers. There are a number of studies which illustrate further exploration is worthwhile, for example, Hakkim et al; 2019 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6544398/
R J Buckle among others have studies the positive effects of relieving the symptoms for some asthmatics (Buckle et al; 1999: Lee et al; 2010)
